Creative Productivity
CREATIVE PRODUCTIVITY
Creative Productivity = Energy x Time
Productivity as a function of time is a remnant of linear economy,
In CREATIVE ECONOMY we need CREATIVE PRODUCTIVITY.
Creative Productivity is a function of ‘TIME’ and ‘ENERGY’,
We don’t just need to manage our time, but also manage our energy.
Most importantly we need to manage the ‘RHYTHM’ of our Time and Energy.
Non-synchronicity between time and energy can lead to lower or no productivity.

MANAGING YOUR ENERGY
Move from a state of blocked energy to a state of channelised energy
Start with BLOCKERS, ask yourself:
- What blocks my energy?
- What builds my energy?
Follow this with GENERATORS, ask yourself:
- What activities shall I do that will build my energy reservoir?
Then focus on CHANNELISING it, ask yourself:
- What task shall I channelise my energy to?
(If you don’t channelise your energy it will dissipate with time. Channelising it to a specific task and objective is a critical step).
---
MANAGING YOUR TIME
Build a routine that is a function of initiation (WHEN), volume (HOW MUCH) and frequency (HOW OFTEN)
- WHEN: To be creatively productive you need to have a discipline to initiate tasks. Creating your own ‘initiation rituals’ helps in breaking procrastination.
- HOW MUCH: Task can sometimes be boring or overwhelming. You need the tenacity to continue till the task you initiated is complete.
- HOW OFTEN: To achieve a goal, you might need to complete a series of tasks. Completion of these tasks might take more than one iteration. You need to have discipline and vision of big picture on how each task that you are doing is building up towards the bigger goal.
BUILDING RHYTHM & MOMENTUM
Both Energy and Time need to act in Rhythm for you to build the momentum for Creative Productivity.
This all begins with INTENTION.
Creative Productivity = Intentionality [Energy x Time]

BACKSTORY [what prompted this framework]
Couple of weeks ago I had to work on a proposal. I had time, but I still couldn’t complete it. I had time, but something was missing. I realised that something missing was my ‘energy’. I scrambled up a working definition of ‘energy’ for myself: ‘Energy is a composite of one’s emotional (psychological, spiritual) and physical well being. At a given time it is an interplay of your emotions, motivations, inspirations on one side, and place & timing, people around you and your physical health on the other’. Managing your energy means managing this interplay.
