School of Metaskills
I have always been curious about things around me,
Particularly, how we (humans) think and learn; and apply that learning.
This curiosity led me into concepts like
'thinking how we think' and 'learning how we learn'.
I started to explore how 'thinking', 'learning' and 'doing' are co-related.
I started to delve deeper into the idea of 'skills' as a connector between 'learning' and 'doing'
Thinking (mindsets) and learning are in our heads,
but 'skill' is where the rubber meets the road.
This led me to dive deeper into the skills universe.
'skills' has somehow become 'the' topic in organisations, on social media, and in our conversations.
There is a 'skills cacophony' surrounding us,
this generates confusion for individuals:
'what are the skills that I should master' from a deluge that comes my way - technical skills, hard skills, soft skills, human skills, life skills, social skills, and so many more 'type' of skills!
My curiosity led me to go deeper into the subject and make sense of this for myself.
This curiosity led me to the idea of MetaSkills.
Broadly I see that there are two kinds of skills:
1. FUNCTION SPECIFIC SKILLS - applied to a certain function, particular task/job
2. META SKILLS - higher order, context & situation agnostic, general purpose and transferable
It has taken four plus years of research, conceptualising, speaking, making tools to master MetaSkills and testing them in different contexts, in different continents and cultures.
It was hard to find this courage (while struggling with my own impostor syndrome)
to publicly announce that, "We* have started our 'School of MetaSkills' ".
(*we - there are other curious and very smart people who have been with me on this journey all these years)
(though based in Singapore and Germany, we are global)
